Quirky, estate-made chest on stand in oak, c. 1720. An unusual piece made almost entirely from oak with 5 long and 2 short drawers. The piece is made in the William and Mary style with double half round moulding on the carcass, a shaped apron on the stand, and short, 17th century style legs. However the piece post dates the period as fashion didn't filter through to rural areas until later. The handles are replacements but the rest of the piece is entirely original. The drawers are nailed both back and front. This simple, chunky piece exudes charm and is typical of the vernacular style during the 18th century.
