A superb untouched oak and fruitwood crossbanded chest on stand, c. 1740. Although this is a piece of vernacular furniture, the design is elegant and the craftsmanship skilled. The cornice is dentil moulded above with intricate blind fretwork below. The caracass is made from oak as are the drawer linings so it was an expensive piece in its day.
The ball and claw feet are original but very country made. It's as if the maker has reserved his craftsmanship for the lower frieze which is quite superb in its detail.
To cap it all the brass work is original and it has a wonderful golden colour. It's been a hard decision to let this piece leave our showroom.
Measurements: 152 cm high x 97 cm wide x 53 cm deep (60" x 38" x 22")
Price: £1650
